Addison Gallery of American Art - Phillips Academy - Andover, MA

A gallery well worth a visit in the very New England city of Andover, at the more than prestigious Phillips Academy. It's at about 20 miles from Boston.

Small museum is a better name to describe this place full of American Art masterpieces on 3 floors in about 6 galleries. Some  are very unusual like its superb collection of models American ships, some are cutting edge. There's also an extensive collection of photographs shown on a rotating basis in thematic exhibitions. All of that for the education of students, of course, but also for the general public.

It's another addition to the Boston Citywalks page "Other outings".

Une galerie qui vaut une visite dans la très Nouvelle Angleterre ville de Andover et à la plus que prestigieuse Phillips Academy. C'est à environ 30 km de Boston.

 Petit musée est un nom plus adéquat pour décrire cet endroit rempli de chef d'oeuvres de l'art américain sur 3 étages et dans environ 6 galeries. Certaines sont très inhabituelles comme sa superbe collections de modèles de bateaux américains, d'autres sont à l'avant-garde. Il y a aussi une grande collections de photos en rotation lors d'expositions thématiques, Le tout pour l'éducation des élèves, bien sûr, mais aussi destiné au grand public.

 C'est une autre addition à la page "Autres sorties" de Promenades à Boston.

Open to the public in March 2019, it is made of interconnected stairs on 16 floors; its platforms overlook the skyscrapers that have also emerged in this place at about the same time, and on the Hudson River in the distance, behind the subway depot that gives its name to the place. Its particular shape has also made it compared to a M. C. Escher drawing and it's the creation of British designer Thomas Heatherwick. Its metal pieces have been built in Italy. Otherwise, you take the Charlestown Bridge back and you arrive next to North Station. Le Temps des amours IV, 2nd ed (the time of love IV, 2nd ed) A l'orée du bois (at the wood's edge) (texte en français ci-dessous) Most of my larger prints are now on ldart.work . "A l'orée du bois", is a hand colored linocut I made in 2000, and re-printed in 2011. For the 2nd edition, I kept the same colors but less of them, and I cut the block on the left side to make it a 6x16"image instead of the 6x16.5" it was before. I wanted this print to look like some of the cave painting you see in the South West of France. "Le temps des amours IV" is also a linocut and also a second edition but this time, I didn't change anything except the paper! I created the 1st edition in 1987, and it was part of a series of four 12.5x13" linocuts with four different pairs of animals in different stages of courtship (you can see all of them on the 1984-1990 prints page ).  The paper was different because I had bought it in France i...
